NEED HELP with scenarios

Forum: Writing and Poetry

I'm writing a fanfic about two characters, one is the mc of the story and a good guy. The other guy is one of the villains and he's borderline psychotic. Feelings are a difficult topic for him as his character is not THAT fleshed out on the story and we dunno if any of that personality has other layers or not. He's simply an evil person who does evil for no reason for now. As for whether his actions have any psychological reasons, that's not clear either! It's pretty hard to write a fanfic honestly, when one of your characters is like this. So, I'm thinking..if I was to pair these two together..are there any scenarios I could use? For them to come closer and the probable romance to work?? The story basically has the premise that the evil guy forces the mc to be in a fake relationship with him and just to make the mc look pathetic and no other reason.. I won't put any non-con/dub-con since I want them to be..well as non-problematic as I can make them. (Which sounds crazy as I just said he kind of forced the relationship on him..) but dear people..please do help me.. :((

i mean since it's fanfic, u shouldn't be scared to flesh them out yourself. You can maybe give them your own backstory, whatever you think might fit them. If you feel like you can't do the character justice writing them in a scenario where they might not fit, you can try a character study.

a character study is basically analyzing character dialogue and actions, writing them with their perspective in mind (doesn't have to be first person, just have their mindset be vocal) and optional, you can put them in a situation where they wouldn't usually find themselves in

For the last advice, i heard putting characters in a scenario complete opposite of their source material and writing (after studying said character) their perspective/reaction can help. (Like if you put doom guy in animal crossing lol)

hope this can help with fleshing out ur character a bit

The beauty of fanfiction (and writing in general) is that you can add your own twists and bits to characters (even those who are not otherwise fleshed out), given that they are still in the realm of believability for that character. For example: if this villain is pragmatic and cynical, you can imagine what their house or apartment might look like (perhaps dull and dreary), even if it wasn't shown in the show/movie/book.

Similarly, you can use the established world of the story to add layers to the character and flesh them out. Perhaps a protagonist's good intentions turned a once bright and beloved child into a hateful one, or maybe it was through the actions of ANOTHER villain that this one was made.

tl;dr: you can make it up, just make it believable and you're good

Now, to address the circumstances of your this hero and this villain meeting and being forced into a relationship...

Perhaps there's something that they both want, and reluctantly team up together to work towards? A treasure, perhaps? An appearance/social dynamic that they need to create and maintain? Or go the opposite route, and have them work together to prevent a set of circumstances they don't want to happen.

The inciting incident could be the hero just being at the wrong place at the wrong time, or maybe the MC is trying to sabotage/stop what the villain was trying to do, but is only met by partial success and they end up in a stalemate/deadlock?

I hope this helps! And I hope we get to read it too, after you complete the work or at least get some chapters started :>
