Forum: Helping each other

So, I'm suffer from the thing called ankylosing spondylitis, and I have a weak left side. Sometimes, at least a few times a week, I need something to support myself because my left leg is literally not cooperating. Id want to carry with me a cane or crutches on those days, but I'm scared people will call me out for 'faking' because I don't have to use those every day. I have no idea what to do now... :P

I understand the fear of being judged. But you have a REAL condition, you don't need to justify your behavior. If you really think that a cane would help you get around just do it, it is your wellbeing what we are talking about.

I hope you make the decision to car for yourself, and even if they judge you just explain your condition and if they don't understand it or don't believe, f them!!!!

when i was finally able to afford to buy one, i started using a cane 7 months ago, and as of today, I've yet to have anyone accuse me of faking or even ask "what happened?" (though the one time someone asked me "what happened?" was on a wheelchair day, lol). i do use a cane daily, however.

regardless, remember that you don't owe anyone any sort of explanation for using a mobility aid. if it helps make life just a little less shit since our bodies hate us, then fuck anyone who tries to make you feel ashamed for something you cannot control.
