Okay, for the record: these are bands that aren’t emo, but I still really enjoy them as someone who loves emo music. My thought process is — if I like them as an emo music enjoyer, maybe you will too!
First up, The Garden.
They have their own genre called "Vada Vada," but their earlier stuff leans pretty punk, which makes sense because that’s what they’re into. At the very least, they’re alternative. I definitely recommend giving them a listen — especially their song "Ballet." I also really enjoy their album Mirror Might Steal Your Charm.
Next, we have Machine Girl.
If you love the shouting aspect of emo or screamo, you might like Machine Girl. They’re very loud — in a good way. I’d say their genre is breakcore. I recommend checking out their latest album MG Ultra, and especially the song "Hot Lizard," which I really enjoy.
Another great band: Jack Off Jill.
I personally think they’re super underrated. They have some great songs, and while they’re definitely alternative rock, there’s a tiny bit of screaming too. Plus, it’s nice to see a band made up mostly of girls. I recommend their album Clear Hearts Grey Flowers, especially the song "Fear of Dying."
Hail the Sun —
Honestly, I consider them pretty emo. You might already know about them, but I couldn’t leave them out. Their sound is a mix of screamo, emo, and post-hardcore rock. I recommend the song "Maladapted" and the album Wake. They're seriously great.
Then there’s LANDMVRKS.
They're a French metalcore/nu-metal band, and I think they’re awesome. If you enjoy heavy screaming, drumming, and guitar, you’ll probably love them too. I recommend the song "Rainfall" — it’s a pretty good representation of what I like about them. Also, check out their 2021 album Lost in the Waves.
Even though these bands aren’t really emo except Hail the Sun, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Even if emo is your favorite, it’s always nice to branch out and discover new music. Let me know if you guys like any of these bands too!!
P.S.
I think the most slept-on Panic! at the Disco songs are "Time to Dance" and "Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks."
