thoughts on the Switch 2

so like many of you, I watched the Switch 2 direct and I'm personally of two minds on it.

first off I love that it has support for 4k and up to 120 frames. it'll be interesting to see how many games support these since over the last 20 years Nintendo has intentionally lagged behind on power, but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. I also love that they're finally giving the Gamecube some love in the online pass, I've always felt it was a vastly under-rated console. There are also some good looking titles coming at or soon after launch, new Mario Kart is always a good thing, and the new Donkey Kong looks good too, not to mention getting a new Fromsoft game that appears to be exclusive to at least some extent. Last but certainly not least, I love that they're FINALLY adding group chat, it's almost 20 years behind the competition, but it's better late than never.

On the other hand I was really hoping they'd go more the Xbox path for upgrades to previous gen games, instead they're going the Playstation route where it's all paid, I'm sure some of these will justify themselves more than others, but still, Xbox's free upgrades are really nice. Also there's a lack of clarification so far on og switch accessories, the Switch pro controller wasn't cheap, and I'd really love to be able to use it on the Switch 2. the new pro controller is even more expensive. I have a feeling they're using the new C button as an excuse to not allow compatibility for the old controllers.

For me I think the games line up is likely going to tempt me to pick up a Switch 2 at least within the first year of launch, it's much stronger than the og Switch for me, since it was mostly Wii U games being ported over, and I have a Wii U. I do wish they would have implemented some more consumer friendly practices though.

Where are the rest of you on the Switch 2?
