Why are you learning Japanese?

Hi everyone! I posted this forum topic because I wanted to know everyone's reasons for learning Japanese!

For me, my reason is actually two reasons. For my college, it's required to get a credit in foreign language. So to do that, you'll need to take two Elementary courses in any language they have available, and it takes just one school year to complete the credit. But the reason I chose Japanese specifically is because it's enough of a challenge that I wouldn't feel bored studying, and because I knew a lot of basic Japanese words from all the time I spent watching anime and Vocaloid music videos. ^^

I hope that one day I'll be fluent enough in Japanese to play the super cute Japan region only games that are available on the 3DS! :DDD There's so many cute games over there that I can't play because I can't translate anything. :(

Hello Everyone,

I am learning Japanese for two reasons as well

I have Japanese relatives that I'd love to connect with better. Every time I visit, we both struggle to speak each other's language lol but it won't be a struggle for long! I want to surprise my relatives with my Japanese!

I do plan on moving there and getting a job. I plan on taking the JLPT N5 and N4 in the next two to three years.

I do have a problem being completely consistent with studying. I'll be able to study for a month straight then go back to doing it 2-3 times a week. But I am fluent in Hiragana, Katakana, and some Kanji as well as super basic conversational Japanese (casual and polite). I'd love to be able to find people who can help me practice and vice versa!

Hi people!!

I'm learning Japanese because I'd like to be a translator! I want to translate stories to my native language (Portuguese).

I also want to watch anime, and travel to the more rural areas of Japan and be able to communicate with the locals. I think it'd be fun.
