how do we feel about the fediverse

i think it combines the decentralized nature of the old web with the community-driven nature of the new
it bumps into similar problems as both
(higher barrier to entry, infighting & doomscrolling on mastodon, etc etc)
that said i still like it
my favs is funkwhale (a fediverse music streaming service)

I want to get into the fediverse. I tried with misskey once upon a time but I lost interest and briefly abandoned my account. That's probably because I haven't found my circle there.

The Fediverse sounds like a cool idea, but I don't know where to start/how to get into it. I'm not a programmer, I have a very hard time learning code, and I've seen that a few things in the fediverse require those skills.

i've joined mastodon years ago. i'm still using it. i made bunch of
friend on there. i met one of them irl. i love fediverse architecture.
there is no reccomendation system or nothing else. pure following
relation. you can follow video feeds (peertube), image feeds (pixelfed)
like ig etc. there are a link aggregator/communities like reddit as
well. you can follow all of it from one fediverse account. any way from
my view it's little inactive and also there are not that much
people who speak the same language as me. i'm using it to yap casually
thats it.

also i think you can't doomscroll on mastodon. it's not
recommendation system driven at all. you will bored or come to an end
very soon.a

you do not need to know any of that. just find a fediverse instance fit to you. you can try mastodon. it's pure microblogging website. there are bunch of server (instances) for any topic/community but you don't need to worry any about it at first. just sign up, follow people and share.

I have three Mastodon accounts, one on PeerTube, and keeping an eye on other Fediverse apps. It's my hangout of choice these days. Yes, it has a strong culture. Yes, it's what you make of it. Got to be active there, do your homework and respect social norms. But guess what: a lot of us like just that. All of that.
