Mozilla Firefox sucks

They really sold out

Breakdown:

The initial Terms of Use contained language that appeared to grant Mozilla broad rights over user data, specifically regarding content uploaded or inputted through Firefox.

Mozilla also updated its Privacy FAQ to address legal concerns around terms like "sells".

While Mozilla has historically stated that it does not sell user data, it has moved away from this commitment due to the evolving and broad definition of "sale" in various jurisdictions.

Mozilla now acknowledges that it gathers and shares some data with partners to ensure Firefox remains commercially viable, while anonymizing data or presenting it in aggregate form.

Some have noted that Mozilla has removed the statement about not selling data from its FAQ, which has caused concern and thus this controversy.

My personal opinion:

I used Firefox for a long time as my daily driver, alongside a chromium-based browser and Edge (solely for Microsoft accounts only). I truly believe in people's rights to privacy and not be used as a product for a company's "free service". It sucks that Firefox would go out this way. I might present an alternative, the vanilla Mozilla browser sucks so, but I'm worried that they'll be affected:

  • Hardened Firefox - heavily customized vanilla firefox / just remove the telemetry bro / probs won't work anymore
  • Waterfox - Firefox fork
  • Librewolf - Firefox fork
  • Zen - hip new Firefox clone that I'm not sure if it's good or not
  • Fennec - Firefox fork for android
  • Mull - Firefox fork for android
  • Palemoon - Firefox if you're still using Windows XP lol

TL;DR i'm on copium rn, mozillabros

This forum post is all about Gecko-based browsers. While you may drop mentions of Chromium browser, this is not about getting Chromium-Based alternatives but about Firefox clones or browsers with Gecko web engine.

So, should I stop using Firefox altogether, chat? I'm looking forward to switch to Librewolf. Or hardened it further. HARDER!
Edit: I probably not going to switch to Librewolf, I'm enamoured by Zen.

Firefox really is forever on the shit list now, isn't it? They really just divorced from the policies that drew people towards the browser to begin with.

I'm adjusting over to Palemoon for now, until I feel differently about it. It's pretty good, even if you're not using Windows XP.

Yeah, it's a shame, Mozilla seem to make bad decision after bad decision.

I started watching the video you posted (which is from August 2023) and the guy puts Firefox at 2.79% of the browser market share.  Well I believe Linux is about 4% of the desktop market share, so that suggests that more people use Linux as a desktop system than use Firefox as a browser.  Shocking.

I like LibreWolf, it's probably going to be my main browser soon.  It has anti-fingerprinting measures which is great.

There's also Mullvad Browser which I believe aims to do anti-fingerprinting by making every Mullvad Browser look the same (so no extensions as far as I'm aware).

I've seen a few people mention they really liked Zen, but that's about the sum total of my knowledge on it.

I have Pale Moon and Basilisk on my Windows 7 installation, but I avoid going on-line very much using Windows 7.  I had Waterfox, but I think it no longer works on 7.

I'm really looking forward to this new Ladybird browser which is due to come out in 2026, I really hope it shakes things up!

i switched to librewolf and it's been great so far
they have tab containers enabled by default which is nice
the only problem is that netflix doesn't work in it for some reason (even with drm enabled & rfp disabled)
i'd also recommend zen more if you're looking for something like vivaldi browser but based on firefox

The sole issue is that Netflix fails to block blast function on it for some reason (even with DRM turned on and RFP turned off).

I don't watch Netflix via browser, so this is the first time I've heard of it. What a silly issue.

I think it's pretty neat. The downside is, it's not really as secure compared to other browser. But that's on the user; how they handle using this browser. It's also frustrating that some website blocks some of the exit nodes in the Tor browser.
