My personal favorite Midwest emo band is The Cabs (not to be mistaken for the pop rock band The Cab). The Cabs is a Japanese band lasting from 2006 to 2013. They heavily combine math rock with some nice shoegaze full of these nice and refreshing riffs. I love the vocals, especially the screaming. I don't know a ton of Japanese myself, but I just like this band a lot even with the language barrier.
