Genre recommendations (artists, songs, bands, whatever)

Forum: Music

Lately, I've been getting into music genres I never listened to in my life. For the longest time my main genres were simply Alternative Rock and Nu Metal, I listen to bands like Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age and Linkin Park.

But recently, I've been expanding my tastes, example being I got into Hip-Hop through an artist named Nujabes, who's music I fell in love with instantly to the point I bought his album - 'Luv(sic) Hexalogy' on CD. Hell, I've even started listening Japanese music, specifically an artist called Kikuo, I literally have a whole playlist of his music on spotify. Lol.

I'm hoping someone can give me some more recommendations for a genre, artist, band, you name it, maybe different things from the genres I've listed below :p

List of genres I've recently 'discovered':

  • Hip-Hop/Lofi (Nujabes, Ljones)
  • Vocaloid (Kikuo)
  • Maidcore (Yakui the Maid)
  • Electronic/IDM (Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada)

if you're getting into vocaloid stuff i'd recommend マサラダ (masarada)! they only have a couple of songs but i like them all a lot, they have super fun mvs on youtube which add a lot to the songs (and have translations) :]

id recommend u try noise rock! some notable bands are sonic youth, dinosaur jr, big black, and swans. my personal fav is sonic youth. their early stuff is pretty noisy, but the newer stuff is more melodic/beginner friendly. imo their best era is the late 80s. dino is also pretty good, and it leans more into lead guitar

Operation doomsday by mf doom

Company flow

And liquide Swords by gza

Also I think you would love trip hop which is a mix of hip hop and Electronic music, go listen to mezzanine by massive attack

If you like nujabes check out Navy Blue, his albums Memoir in Armour and Song of Sage: Post Panic! are really good and more laid back hip hop songs.
