Forum: Reclaiming the Internet Group

So I was wondering if anybody has any opinion on a more peer-to-peer internet because I think p2p would help to make the internet more decentralized and actually make people more sociable in the internet since everybody knows that social media barely helps people into becoming more socialized it honestly does the opposite so I wanna know on any ideas on making the internet more p2p or if anybody could recommend anything that is p2p? im not sure the only stuff i know that is p2p are Secure Scuttlebutt and positive-intentions.com but idk do you guys think that p2p might be the future for more of a decentralized internet besides just being used for money transfer?

I just convinced a friend to try Jami with me. It works unexpectedly well for a distributed system. There are others, too, like Simplex Chat or the Briar Project, but they don't seem as convenient or convincing. Also, that's just messengers. There are protocols for a P2P web too, like IPFS, but I'm still not sure how they're supposed to work. We'll always need gathering spots anyway. Otherwise how are we going to even hear about each other?

i saw a similar kinda discussion on an imageboard b4 . honestly, i do liek tha idea, but itz one that might require quite a bit of traffic 2 really be affective--both simply 2 function as p2p, and for tha whole social aspect .

most recommendationz ive seen 4 p2p alternativez 2 tha www and such seem 2 b going for a really bare-bonez approach, no css or js . no js i can undastand, but i find total lack of any css a litol silly . lack of moderation also makez it hard 4 me to recommend anything (along w my lack of personal experience in tha topic) i hear a lotta placez r rampant w illegal content that makez me unsure if theyd b safe 2 rec .

btw this might be too much of a stretch but what if we just had the internet as a third place. It might not make sense but hear me out, social media is obviously the opposite of what it is for example facebook and instagram focus more towards how much likes or views a certain posts has like i know everyone knows this but what im trying to point out is if we could get places like the library or any other third place to be that place to only use the internet if that makes any sense? or have it be where you connect via p2p by going to your local third place and connecting with other people's computers through p2p. Things like that is what I think should be the way to make www more sociable but honestly it is pretty unrealistic :/
