How to get involved in my community?

and pls dont say facebook groups im done with facebook and instagram..

i want to go out more and meet people but don't know how to put myself out there, i have tried dating apps but chickened out and deleted it when people wanted to meet up. i'm more interested in general events where other ppl in their early 20s would be but not scary like nightlife stuff.. more like group events and activites, maybe bars but idk
