Ok so my bunnies. One of them is named Cream and they are my smaller bunny and starting on Friday they decided to start breaking out of their (temporary) home because the hutch and their pen got separated enough to where they could squeeze out. We fixed that problem by putting a hook on the hutch to keep the pen in place and we thought that was it until later that day I'm laying in bed and he LEAPS OUT OF THE PEN. WHAT.
I probably should have seen this coming because they're bunnies but my brain hasn't computed yet that they're almost adults THEY WERE LITERALLY BABIES A MONTH AGO STOP TJIS anyway. So after learning that Cream can jump over their pen fence I decide to swap Vanilla and Creams homes for safety.
For context, bunnies, regardless of each other's gender, have to be separated until they're spayed or neutered because bunnies are extremely hormonal and they will fight each other to the DEATH over territory. Their full house(?) I guess??? features a bunny hutch I built myself (not to brag) and a SUPER BIG PEN. I separated the bunnies by separating the pen and the hutch (I added a smaller pen to the hutch dw). Cream was able to jump over the small temporary pen connected to the hutch.
So, I moved cream into Vanilla's pen and Vanilla into Cream's, switching all of their stuff and it took FOREVER BTW. I also added some blankets on top of areas where Vanilla could potentially escape. Vanilla isn't a jumper like Cream, but she does love to climb, and there are some areas that she could climb out of the pen if I weren't careful. That kinda backfired on me I fear, because Vanilla was able to get ahold of one of the blankets and used it to hoist herself ON TOP OF THE HUTCH. LIKE ON THE ROOF. I was able to fix all of that by making the blankets tighter and she wasn't able to climb anymore but istg she was DETERMINED to get on top of there again. So when I was in the bathroom she JUMPED ON TOP OF THE HUTCH, WHICH MIGHT I MENTION, IS SIGNIFICANTLY TALLER THAN THE PEN.
So currently, I have a mattress cover tightly pinned on top of the hutch and pen with clothes pins and chip clips to keep her from climbing. And if you're wondering how Cream is doing, he's currently trying to escape that pen too, except it's too high for him to climb so now he's trying to chew through the tarp on the sides and bottom of the pen to keep dust out. Unfortunately for him, beyond the tarp is more bars.
Also, Cream honked at me the other day, which was really funny.
