Hi everyone ! Welcome to the Spacehey music exchange !
The idea is simple : you put whatever music you like on physical media and mail it to a stranger. You’ll then receive the same from someone else. If you like discovering what other people listen to and finding new songs you may like, you will definitely be interested.
Since I couldn’t find anything like that on the website I decided to organise my own ! Anyone can participate, just fill out the form below to get in. I’ll reach out to you afterwards to tell you who you’re mailing your music to. Then you just have to record a CD/cassette/etc for that person and tell me when it’s been mailed.
And since you probably have lots of questions, here are answers to most of them :
- I don’t have a CD/tape player, or whatever else. What if I receive one ?
You won’t. In the form I ask what format you can record/play and I will pair you with someone that fits your case.
- International shipping is expensive, what if I’m broke?
If you don’t want to or can’t pay for international shipping I’ll try to find someone that lives in the same country as you.
- I don’t want to give my address to a rando, any alternative ?
Not really. You can ask some friends/family if they can receive it for you (then just fill the form with their contact details) but there’s no way to physically deliver something to you without a name and address (name is really important for international customs). If you’re a minor please ask your parents first to participate.
- What if I don’t receive my mixtape ?
In that case I’ll find someone to replace the one who was meant to send it to you.
- What should I put on my recording ?
Whatever you want ! There’s no pressure nor judgment, don’t be shy about your music taste. Some people like making custom cases, writing a letter with it, or even making their music look like a proper retail product but in the end it’s entirely up to you. As long as it’s physical media with music on it it’s fine.
- When do registrations end ?
I don’t really know, it depends on how many people are interested. Maybe a couple of weeks to a month. I’ll announce the end of registrations a week before it ends.
- How much time do I have to make and post my mixtape ?
When registrations end I’ll take some time to find everyone a great match to send your music to. Once it’s done I’ll send a message to every one of you to give you the address and info of who you must mail your mixtape to. From that moment all mixtapes must be shipped within two weeks. If for whatever reason you can’t do it in time please contact me so that I can make some arrangements.
- I’m a musician/singer, can I put my own music on it ?
Of course !

- Why is there no [insert some obscure old format] in the form ?
It's difficult to include everything, since Spacehey has lots of 90s/00s fans I only put relevant physical formats. If you're interested in something else please leave a comment to let me know !
