Tips for beginner goths??

yesterday, me and some school friends dressed up with alternative styles - some were emo and scene, but I chose goth. I did my makeup and dressed up and my friends told me it looked really good and I should start dressing like that from now on :')

im kinda feeling it, and I wanna try - so any tips for a beginner goth? I don't want it to be too dramatic because im still pretty new...

1) Learn the history and abide by the politics. Goth is very connected to punk and they share very very similar values. Don't be in the fashion if you don't want to put in effort to learn the history

2) Develop your music taste. Listen to some popular goth bands to start out with (Siouxie & the Banshees, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, etc.) and then further develop what music you like

3) Learn the basics of DIY. If you learnt the history, you'd know that goths are very against fast fashion. Just adding a few safety pins can turn a basic top into a really cute goth one. There are tons of videos and forums online. I myself made a couple DIY blogs.

4)have fun

Goth generally has a LOT to do with DIY!! I personally take a lot of my goth style inspiration from comic book characters like Eric Draven, Iris Shaw, or Death! Pinterest is amazing for finding creative and affordable goth diys as well!! The entire subculture also has a lot to do with political and moral beliefs, I strongly recommend doing research on how and where it originated.
