Hi all!
Wow! So many of you guys replied to what I originally posted on the group forum (Physical Media)! You all had really interesting things to say and I thought it was pretty valuable. So I wanted to write another one :p
Thoughts
Physical media is pretty important and people are keeping CDs and DVDs and even burning their own CDs (someone mentioned Discogs? no clue what that is but sounds awesome! I'll look it up later). People also spoke about streaming services with which I have a love/hate relationship. I think streaming can be helpful for people who don't have DVD players or CD players (rip accessibility). It's also good for people who want to pay a smaller amount of money to have more access.
But that access is kinda limited unless you pay more money! Kinda like how Netflix has ads now and you have to pay more to remove the ads. Like, what's the point? Also, I was watching a YouTube video that said that some streaming services change slight portions of movies with AI to change the definition of the film. I looked it up and it's true, although the change isn't super drastic but it matters to me. (https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilsahota/2024/03/18/streaming-into-the-future-how-ai-is-reshaping-entertainment/)
But my big thing is ownership! Because unfortunately, you can rent over 100 movies and TV shows at a time but if you miss your payment you lose it all. As opposed to owning the DVD which you could own for a lifetime, no matter what!
In a weird way it's like having a personal connection to the movie that nobody else shares as opposed to watching it on Hulu or Netflix. That's my take on it at least, AND you could buy DVDs for cheap too (thrifts and such).
My Physical Media Journey
As far as my journey into using more physical media, it's going well! I've been off of TikTok completely and Instagram I mainly use it to text certain people back but otherwise,e I don't use that either. I use spacehey and tumblr and pinterest more often than not!
I also got back into reading recently! I'm reading The Picture Of Dorian Gray on my bus trip to rehearsals some mornings (I'm doing stage management as of rn for the winter semester). On other mornings I listen to music. I'm also consuming more long-form content which is really helpful AND I've been learning how to code (little by little) by trying to fix up my Heyspace profile! I think it looks nice :)
I've also been thinking of writing blogs on heyspace cuz I like to yap so much. I'd like to learn more and educate people on random ass topics for no reason :3 Hopefully I can soon, I'm just super busy stage managing rip, the grind never stops!
super worth it tho!
thx for reading <3
