learning to be better

Forum: Life

i want better for myself mentally. i put a lot of work into it and I've sacrificed so much of my sanity and strength just keeping my life going.

I feel like there isn't a lot i can do. I'm very depressed no matter what. maybe it's the plethora of mental illness. I just always feel so alone and so worthless, even when I love myself.

pls if anyone has any ideas of healthy ways to be better and think differently, pls let me know. I'll like reading or watching lectures so nothing will be too boring if it's healthy and helpful.

thnx!!! <3

Idk if this is helpful, but I've been trying to go on walks whenever I feel suicidal or just down. I'm sure it's a trial and error thing and what does and doesn't work for you will be different, but walking when I can works for me. Doesn't even have to be long or with a destination in mind. I like counting things when I walk to distract myself so I can calm down, like how many of my neighbors have a certain color mailbox or how many birds I've seen.

As someone that battled that kinda stuff, lemme tell you, there is a light you can work towards.

1. Get vitamin D, most of us are deficient in it. Magnesium Glycinate can help you regulate sleep too, so you have more energy.

2. Get your body active, aerobic exercise is best, like biking or skating, just gotta get your heart racing and your breath inhaling/exhaling. Just getting outside can be enough sometimes.

3. Find people to talk to about stuff. Some venting is okay, but don't let it dictate stuff. Do your best to talk about fun stuff with them and smile, it releases good chemicals in your brain to socialize, especially face to face.

I hope this helps, and remember,

Never give up!

If you’re not on any medications, it might be a good idea to talk to your doctor (if you have one) about your options. There are of course things that can be done to help reduce depression without medication, of course, but feeling down all the time no matter what you do makes me think you could use the assistance.

I also say this as someone who has struggled with mental health issues for years, I blamed myself for not ‘trying hard enough’ and all it did was escalate until it required emergency intervention.

If you /are/ on medication and feeling this way, it’s important to tell your doctor. Sometimes meds can lose effectiveness and besides that some have side effects that can make things worse. Letting them know means they can adjust type or dose.
