Love/ Hate Relationship With Social Media

So, we all understand, and have experienced the negative effects of modern media. I won't bore you with the talk about brain rot, shortened attention spans, lack of human interaction, and pretty much wasting your life away on ur phone. I think what keeps me from resisting the addiction though, is the good parts of social media, especially tik tok. Tik tok is the worst of all when it comes to doom scrolling, but there is also so much beautiful content on there. Some of the most magnificent music/ photography/ film/ art that I have ever seen has been from tik tok. The FOMO i feel when not having tik tok is KILLERRR. I have been trying to just find balance between my real life and the internet, but it genuinely feels impossible. Once I open tik tok, I am on it for hours. When I delete tik tok, I scroll on instagram reels and even YOUTUBE SHORTS sometimes. I don't want to delete instagram because I love posting, it feels like a form of expression. And I love seeing my friends/ long term moots posts. How can I find balance in all of this? Do I just have the worst self control in the world? Let me know if yall relate to this.

TBH we never notice the difference. Maybe because IRL nobody likes us because clumsy and nerdy and into weird things and basically a loser, though.

Maybe our case is the opposite of normal...we have a healthier relationship with people online than IRL. Everyone we know outside the Internet is an ass with us.

Oh, well.

EDIT: Agreed, though. TikTok fsckin SUCKS. Plus, the app is LITERAL SPYWARE. No joke, not making this up, it secretly sends your data to the Chinese government.

nobody thought social media would took off, I blame smartphones.

We have to use it because our friends and family are on it one way or the other, even some jobs require you to have a social media account or a whatsapp.

Is social media inherently bad? no. is it being used in an awful way that promotes not plurality but everyone being a coagulative hivemind to appease the alghoritm? absolutely.

Usually I just mute the app notifications and put my phone away from my vision, does the trick for me. I'd recommend you to have an open mind to what your giving likes to when scrolling. It also depends on what content your consuming that gets you hooked, you could be scrolling for inspiration on an art project your doing but it can also be used when you're worrying about the newest dooms day event. If your really worried about getting hooked in just set an data limit on the side.
