Physical Media

Lately, I've been having such a hard time grappling with how much I use social media. I use TikTok all the time, when I'm bored I'll scroll on Instagram then get off the app and automatically get back on it.

It sucks how much it's taking over my life!!!

So I decided to use more physical media and hopefully throughout the year, lay off of streaming services (looking to buy a portable DVD/CD player). I won't go ghost on the net tho, I think I wanna use it more mindfully.

So I wanna use (or browse) websites such as this, or other websites like neocities. Shit, even getting back into gaming would be so much better than doomscrolling.

I'd even like to try to write blogs or posts on random things (lately I've been watching izzzyzzz so take from that what u will).

Even writing this random forum feels so freeing, I don't feel limited. Anyway that was a lot and super random!

Stay kind guys :D

Use Wiby.me to search for some web 1.0 sites similar to Spacehey, you can even find links to neocities like you said.. It can't find useful information and it's pretty limited, but it's fun sometimes. There are other "old web" search engines like wayback machine amongst others you can try. I can't recall them off the top of my head, so you'll have to go looking for them.

I have a DVD/VHS player myself, and i've been trying to find ways to download and store youtube videos and play them from local storage, like how I might use a DVD. Thinking about SD cards for that.

Speaking of social media, it's getting to the point that more and more of the main stream internet is dying. So it's probably best you get off things like tik-tok and instagram before it gets too bad, anyways. But I understand how  easy to get entangled in that stuff.

Personally, while I still use youtube, I ghost on the site without an account, because cookies are good enough to track my interests instead of having it tracked on an account (for better or for worse). So maybe you should start ghosting around mainstream sites too, but I digress.

Hello! Physical media enthusiast here! I highly recommend local CD stores and discogs for your CD collecting/portable things.. me and my fiance have a large collection and only use laptops for the internet and it has drastically improved our life. Try getting a CD burner too for playlists if you get tired of album-only listens. DVDs can be found at vintage game stores too. Looking forward to hearing about your ventures into the world of physical media!૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

I feel like sooo many younger people are feeling this way about social media (including myself) - I have been collecting physical media for a couple years but I recently decided to rip all my CDs onto my iPod and have basically completely ditched apple music.. makes me wonder how many subscriptions could be replaced by buying physical media..

Same! It doesn't help that movies and shows are always being shuffled between like five different streaming services :/ So finding the physical copy is just easier, plus you usually get bonus content you would never usually see ^^

We only use YT to listen to music, and that is because the MP3 player broke and VLC will not run on our phone for some reason...

Why did Google think it was a good idea to kill Play Music?
