Maintaining Your DIY Crusties!!

So uh real quick- sorry for not posting for 2 damn months LMAOOO I forgot I have Spacehey (had a lot goin on lately). Imma start being more active here again lol. Anywayzzz INTO THE TUT!!

"Morg, how do I take care of/maintain my crusties?? What if they fall apart?"

Don't worry, it's pretty simple. Not easy, but simple lol. There are two big ways you can take care of your crusties to get longevity out of them.

1. Wax your goddamn crusties.
2. Steep your crusties in a soapy bath.

Let's go over each of these.

"What the fuck is waxing my crusties?? What?"

You take either a block of beeswax or a candle (can be beeswax OR parafin) and just kinda..... rub it rlly rlly hard into your crusties. What this does is create a waxy layer that repels liquids, and helps stop fabric from wearing down as fast, so you don't have to worry if someone bleeds on you or throws beer all over the place in the pit (as that does happen). This technique actually comes from union workers who would buy a pair of denim pants and then would go through a pair like every 2 weeks via their pants wearing down or getting too dirty, which is not cost effective. They figured out a way to create this waxy layer to help make their jeans last longer, as well as keep them waterproof!

Warning: doing this can take a while lol

"Steeping my crusties? Like pants soup?"

Yes lmao.

If you don't like how smelly ur shit is gettin', you can wash your crusties by putting them in a bath of slightly warm water and either dish or laundry soap (I use dish soap bc it washes out easier/quicker than laundry soap!). But!! Be gentle! Use a stick or something similar to gently swish ur crusties around in the soap water, then once the water gets murky, drain the tub and do the same process again and again till the water runs as clear as you're happy with! Once that happens, it's up to you if you wanna decide either throwing that shit into the dryer or letting em air dry outside on a fence/clothesline/drying umbrella rack.

Warning: this method can take hours or even a couple days, start to finish, depending on the state of your crusties.

Suggestion: If you use floss like I do, and end up choosing to use a dryer machine (not recommended), then PLEASE set your dryer to LOW HEAT or some kind of delicates setting. Your stitches WILL melt/shrivel.

Hopefully this was helpful for some ppl! Next tut will be on painting patches!! See you then :]
