I think they are incredibly horribly mocking to actual subcultures. A lot of "aesthetics" have ruined the concept of personal style and the underlying purpose of the original style. JFashion (gyaru especially) has been incredibly watered down, metal, goth, etc. It's all because of social media and experimenting without really looking into the history of the style. I was goth for many years and recently got out of the subculture of it (and I've attended many goth concerts and goth events.. very oriented into it) because of how popular and watered down it's become as a result. The basic silhouette and idea of most of these subcultures have changed greatly.. example point being basic gyaru and goth makeup has changed. I fear subcultures are dead... long live these terrible "aesthetics"
