Beatles '64 Discussion

I put on the latest Beatles documentary just to pass some time today. As a documentary itself, it functions just fine. If you have absolutely no knowledge on Beatlemania or anything of the like I can see someone getting something out of it but other than that it's fairly standard. However, what I think really works is just seeing the boys do what they do best: banter and goof around. Their wit was what charmed a lot of people in the first place. I also appreciated the conversations about the teenage girls and how they shape music industries as well as The Beatle's clear admiration for African American musicians. I never heard the Miracle's cover of Yesterday before watching this and I was absolutely mesmerized. That cover and Fiona Apple's Across the Universe sit comfortably as some of my favorite Beatles covers.

What do you guys think?

I liked it to be honest!

Its rare that theres new footage or anything new to say on the dear old band. I mean, theres 100's of books, podcasts, documentaries, forums discussing their existence and we really are squeezing them dry. However, i dont think thats too much of a bad thing. At this point, theyre like scripture (no, not bigger than jesus) and its always exciting to discuss them.

I thought it was interesting to see the impacts they made on peoples' lives, it was so clear everyone interviewed was really passionant and i found that quite moving. I also liked the footage of the Beatlemania girls. Old fashioned american accents are pretty. And I would definitely be screaming/fainting and breaking in through bathroom windows with the best of them if i had a time machine.

My favourite part was at the end, when John described them as being in the crows nest of the ship to america shouting 'Land Ho!'.

Overall, cool documentary.

I havent seen the John Lennon/Yoko Ono film, One to One but it looks okay. Any reviews?
