Forum: Reclaiming the Internet Group

I think one of the most disappointing changes in the internet was the change in YouTube, it in the past stood out for being geniune homemade content about WHATEVER you wanted to see.

This wasn't necessarily a good thing bc it was very unregulated but it wasn't just like a massive ad like it is now:/

Also now it is SO SO copy paste, not many content creators create their own videos with unique formatting styles, topics, or humor. Everything follows a similar formula and it is just so UGHHHHH its disappointing!! I don't hate content creators and I still watch yt sometimes but IT LOWK SUCKS ASS NOW,,, and now with the rise of AI content creators its just getting worse and worse

I understand like following trends n stuff cuz that happens all the time everywhere everything just seems much less authentic than it was before imo

agreed, all the creators I used to watch are so boring and all cover the same topics or copy each other's video ideas its so hard to find something original for once

There are still some unique creators out there, it's just a shame they get overshadowed by all the money hungry channels. Finding the unique creators feels so refreshing!

if i see one more person talk with the most generic voice combined with a super crisp mic that theyre only 1.5 inches away from and a clickbaity thumbnail with their face shoved ontop covering most of it i might loose it

I agree, but unfortunately, it just sort of followed the natural progression that the internet as a whole was doomed to follow. I suppose I don't mind having to dig if I want something truly unique, but I hate that you now have to click away multiple ads just to watch a one or two minute video. It sucks that a lot of it is done in an effort to "create content" rather than being done in the spirit of "I just think this is cool and I'd like to share it with the world to see what they think".

There has been a huge influx of "average joes" getting into youtube playing the formula for easy money. But I'd also argue that there's still a lot of genuine and interesting creators out there, they're just harder to find. For example and to stay in theme do y'all know this channel: https://www.youtube.com/@brahkie

i do understand the sentiment that a lot of stuff feels the same to watch and i agree, a lot of it does feel formulaic and samey

tho i don't ever see ai content creators because i often search for stuff that actually pertains to my interests, just like on the old web there was no algorithm to rely on, if anything distasteful does show up, i simply press "not interested" or "don't show me this channel," i feel people underestimate these features but when they're used frequently in combination with liking/saving, it makes the user experience much more tolerable and even enjoyable, you have to tell the website what you actually wanna see

I was not realizing how much the youtube today is a completely different entity from what it was even 6 years ago.
