So I was watching this video, and the amount of information that cookies share on you is downright disturbing. Sure, everyone knows advertisers track you, but I bet the average webizen doesn't know that they collect stuff like how much battery is in your device, your screen color depth and what fonts you have installed.
And before you think "ugh fearmongering gtfo", think about it - how did the internet go from this beautiful, diverse array of websites to a consolidated corporate hellhole? How did those companies get so powerful that to those who haven't wilfully sought out websites like NeoCities and SpaceHey, that is all the internet is? Just Google, Amazon, Twitter and Facebook and nothing else?
Well, they say information is power, and when they collect stuff you didn't even think they could collect it's no wonder how they were able to manipulate everyone into their CorpoNet ecosystem and why everyone feels helplessly trapped in getting dragged into Web 3.0.
I decided to put a stop to that, to unplug myself from their network. Using the IndieNet is a great start but it's not a total fix.
First step was running this test from the Electronic Freedom Foundation - it's completely safe and very eye-opening. It'll refresh your browser tab a few times but then it'll give you a detailed list of what information you're giving every website you visit. It takes a tiny pinch of tech knowledge to understand a few things, but since you're on SpaceHey I imagine that's not a barrier for you. Not a pretty sight, is it?
Then install this extension called Trace and go through the settings in the advanced options - don't worry, it explains everything it does in detail if you click on the option name. Despite its name, it's designed to eliminate trackers and what information you share through cookies.

And the Cookie Remover extension - you'll have to click the cookie icon manually to make it work but it does what it says on the tin

Cookie Remover Extension for Chromium
And while you're at it, go ahead and set your browser to clear cookies after each session - you do need cookies functioning to be able to log into anything, including SpaceHey, but you don't need to keep them on because otherwise that's free data you're just giving advertisers and corporations.
Just because "everybody tracks you alreadyyyy I'm not doing this uggghhhh" doesn't mean you have to put up with it. You don't have to stand in the antpile and get chewed on constantly. You took a step towards e-freedom by joining SpaceHey, take the next by saying no to the CorpoNet hellhole you left behind. Protect yourself and help dismantle the boring, lifeless ecosystem that megacorporations want to put you in. Don't settle for having your data used against you to be drained dry and manipulated. Take back your data, take back the interwebz...
