(I know this post is 9 months old but still)

[General:]

[FromZero] You need to pay for this one, but it's honestly worth it. It has helped me progress better than any of these other resources. It gives you conversation bubbles you can study, as well as videos for the lesson. You can also watch the videos on YouTube if you're too broke for the subscription. (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOcym2c7xnBwU12Flkm5RcLIEhvURQ8TB&si=sHdpJC3jBTiSAfLL)

[TOFUGU] This site has a bunch of blogs and resources if you ever need recommendations. My favorite part of the site is the kana quiz. It's good if you struggle with remembering the kana. (It's also in the Kana Section of this forum)

[Airlearn] It has all the features of Duolingo, but it progresses way better and faster. You get 5 free hearts every day, and the more lessons you do, the more rewards you get. (Hearts, streak protects, etc.)

[MaruMori] A cool adventure-style website that has games. :)

[Kanji learning resources:]

[Studykanji] This is a good kanji learning site. It has a kanji list and a quiz. Not much to say about it.

[Wanikani] It teaches you radicals and vocab with the kanji, plus it gives you mnemonics to help you remember the meaning, pronunciation, etc. Overall, great source.

[Kanji Pirates] A kids' kanji learning game for IOS.

[Grammar:]

[Tae Kim's grammar guide] Perfect for grammar. It's essentially just a PDF; you can create your flashcards if you'd like, or take notes. OR… You can get the app on the iOS App Store called “Learn Japanese: Sensei”

[Bunpro] Again, a really good resource for grammar. You can also choose to do vocab and grammar, just grammar, or just vocab. You can also toggle learning NSFW words if you ever want to do that. This one is only a free 30-day trial; after that, you have to pay.

[Genki textbooks] These are physical books. I believe there are two: a textbook and a workbook. I don't own these, so my knowledge and feedback are limited. You can always look at reviews, though.

[Elon.io] A grammar and vocab study course for all types of languages.

[Japanese for the Western Brain]

[Kana:]

[Kana Pro] This helps you memorize Hiragana and Katakana by making you go through 4 different stages.

[TOFUGU Kana Quiz] This shows you an entire page of kana with textboxes underneath that you have to type the romaji in.

[Reading:]

[hatelabo] An anonymous diary/blog site. The entire site is in Japanese, and it was made for Japanese people. I don't recommend it if you're an absolute beginner.

[Tadoku.org] A short-story reading site that sorts by level. You can download the PDF, or you can watch the playlist on YouTube that reads it for you. The entire site is in Japanese; however, you can change it to English by pressing the "en" button in the corner of the screen.

[Tenyomi.com] The site has an easy-to-understand layout, and each story has a lesson description, lesson vocab, phrase-by-phrase learning, and an option to listen to the story. There are new lessons every day for you to learn from. It even has an Anki deck you can download for free.

[Vocal Practice:]

[TEUIDA] This is great for mastering pronunciation. You can only do one lesson per day, so if you like overworking yourself, this may not be the choice for you.

[PINGO AI]

(This one is small because I lowk don't gaf about vocal practice but you might)

[Some other good stuff/misc:]

[LatelyJapanese] It tells you the meaning of common Japanese slang.

[Japanesepod101] LISTEN TO THE SOUNDS OF PEOPLE TALKING AND ALSO LEARN AT THE SAME TIME.

[TheMoeWay] A guide to getting started learning Japanese.

[ちびむすドリル] Children’s worksheets

[Miraa] A mobile app that allows you to transcribe any YouTube video.

[LearnJapanese.com]

[JapaneseClass.jp]

[Youtubers:]

[Japanese Ammo With Misa] She has tons of playlists and videos for you to learn from. I heavily recommend her grammar lessons since she has a TON of videos on that, which you can view in her playlists.

[Takashii] He does Japanese street reviews for intonation.

[Miku Real Japanese] She does listening practice for all levels of Japanese learners.

[Go-Dasu] Japanese Ishowspeed (Gaming youtuber)

[HM: NICOVIDEO.JP] Basically Japanese YouTube.

[Tools:]

[Anki] A powerful flashcard tool. It works by seeing what your skill level is with each sentence, word, or kanji. It shows you a card, you click on one of the 4 options (again, bad, good, great), and whatever you select, it will show it again in the time frame provided.  I recommend going on YouTube and looking up "Japanese flashcard sets." Unfortunately, I think this is only free for PCs.

[Jisho] Just a dictionary.

[Textractor] Extract text from visual novels.

[Yomitan] An extension that acts like a live dictionary.

[JPDB] Another dictionary, but this one shows you different anime, visual novels, etc.

[Wotaku] An index for all types of Japanese media.

[Tips:]

Change your app/system language to Japanese. This will allow you to immerse yourself in the language so you don't forget as easily.

Watching Japanese kids' shows can also be helpful, such as Peppa Pig, Curious George, and other shows available.

I recommend using Study Bunny on the App/Play Store as a fun study timer.

Watch slice-of-life anime since they use the most everyday language. I personally don't like anime, so this one isn't for me

The reason some don't have proper descriptions is that this was a personal doc and I'm not writing allat
