Saturn is sixth planet from Sun, and second largest planet after Jupiter in Solar System. This planet, gas giant, has size about nine times Earth's radius. Yet its density is only one-eighth of Earth’s, so though it is massive in size, its weight is about 95 times Earth's. Because of this, Saturn is categorized as a "gas giant."
Inside Saturn, there is believed to be core made from rocks, iron, nickel, silicon, and oxygen, all surrounded by thick layer of metallic hydrogen. Then comes a middle layer of liquid hydrogen and helium, and lastly, outer gas layer.
On planet's surface, white and yellow streaks are present, made from crystals of ammonia at the top. Saturn’s magnetic field, born of electric currents in metallic hydrogen, is slightly weaker than Earth's, measuring only about 1/12th of Jupiter’s field strength. Atmosphere here is mostly constant in color, although some long-lasting patterns may show up. Wind speed reaches 1,800 km/h, which is faster than Jupiter's winds but not as strong as Neptune's.
Saturn’s rings are known worldwide, with nine main rings and three irregular arcs. Rings mostly have ice, but also rocky bits and space dust. Currently, there are 146 known moons; of these, 63 have actual names, not counting many smaller moonlets within rings. Titan, the biggest moon of Saturn and second biggest in Solar System, is even larger than Mercury, and is only moon with real atmosphere.
