To be loyal means to turn away from all,
From any soul or cause that stands opposed.
Men pledge their faith to leaders, flags, and calls,
To love, to oaths, to dreams that they’ve imposed.
But loyalty is false, a fleeting show,
For men are loyal only to their gain.
When interests fail, betrayal starts to grow,
And loyalty reveals itself as vain.
Each man is bound to self, his hidden cause,
Deceiving others with a noble guise.
Ego, the root of all, defies the laws,
That bind their fleeting vows in hollow ties.
Loyalty, the grandest lie of all,
For men are loyal only to their fall.
