Forum: Do it like the original MySpace Group

Me I'm a dude in my 40's, live in the US, and am into tech, gaming, and horror stories/books.

I'm extremely nostalgic for the mid-2000s right now. I was on here for a little bit, dropped off for a year, then I just came back and decided that I was going to really see if there was anything on SpaceHey this time.

I don't know. I didn't really think through what I'd write here. I just don't want the group to be completely empty. It looks bad. So here's a topic.

Tell us (well, it's just me atm) a bit about yourself.

well i'm a 2004 baby!! 19 now, i grew up so jealous of all the super-cool scene kids on myspace and i used to fantasize about when i would be old enough to have my own myspace profile (since my parents wouldn't let me have one when i was 5 lol), now that i'm an adult the internet is so un-customizable and geared towards corporations/making money :( but that's why i love spacehey!! i can customize whatever i want whenever i want, beyond just a profile picture and 80-character bio! spacehey lets me live the online-life i dreamt of in 2009 🌺

Yes I can't stand Facebook or Google or Apple or Amazon when it applies to the web, but really you can't do much of anything online in 2024 without dealing with them.

I've never liked Facebook for a bunch of reasons - they push you to use your real info, and the whole site is based on creating conflict. I read once that if you get something in your feed and respond to it with an angry or laughing emoji (the laughing emoji has gotten real passive aggressive these days), you're like 3 times more likely to get similar content in your feed later on than if you'd given it a like emoji. They want conflict because if you're arguing you're 'engaging'. I think it's been horrible for society.

Ofc I had a MySpace profile way back when and I didn't appreciate what it was at the time. I thought the internet was going to stay just the way it was in the early 2000's, only everything was going to get faster. I thought Facebook was going to be an improvement over MySpace the way MySpace was an improvement over Friendster. Ha.
