I don't know where u live so idk how much this would apply, but if yr local town/city/etc has a reddit community u could ask there or look up if anyones asked there before ! as well, look into the record shops around u, pretty often theyll have posters for upcoming shows, which is rlly useful if u wanna get into yr local scene. lastly, i would say to just look into any venues near u and look up the bands playing and check what kinda genre/style they play to see if its something ud be into
admittedly i dont rlly go to shows particularly often but i have been trying to get into the music scenes in my city as of recent and i find these to be similarly applicable for both !

Look for posters advertising shows, record shops are the best bet but you could also try any downtown/mainstreet area, shopping malls or colleges/high schools.
Facebook events are a good way to keep up as well, if you live in an area that frequently gets bands coming through then you can check some of those bands and see where they play in order to find the venues, in my experience Metal bands tend to stick to the same venues so once you got the venue finding shows becomes pretty easy.
If you see someone that looks like a Metalhead walking around you can just try asking them, it isnt guaranteed to work but chances are they might know about local bands, venues, etc.
Ask around on subreddits, there's plenty of Metal-related ones and the people that go to shows are often passionate about their local scenes as well.

If you're American, you might have some luck on bandsintown, it's normally pretty good at listing upcoming concerts in a general area. Idk how that would equate to other countries though. But one thing I've always found to be true is if you're in an urban environment, there is heavy metal. You'll find places that do shows by the light, phone, or other utility poles that have just a shit ton of band stickers on them. There's always a venue close by to those poles.
