Gateway bands and artists.

What were some of the gateway bands or artists that got you into certain genres? What got you into X genre or Y type of music? Let's have a little discussion about this in this thread.

I'll go first. Probably the main gateway band for me that got me into punk and it's various sub-genres is Reel Big Fish. I came across a video that featured one of their songs, and soon got into their music afterwards. Aside from RBF, a few other bands that got me into punk were Green Day, The Offspring, and even The Click Five of all things, because at the time I grouped them with other 2000s pop punk bands. Keep in mind, nowadays, the latter is more of a normal pop rock band in my book, but that's besides the point.

I'd love to hear what were some of your gateway bands and artists. It doesn't have to be ones that got you into punk, it can be any genre, ska, rock, reggae, techno, pop, ext. Or, heck, even what got you into older music, like any gateway band or artists that got you into 90s or 2000s music, or anything else that got you into specific types of music. Any discussion is appreciated.

A friend of mine recomended to me a japanese band named "Midori" some random but cool jazz/punk, weird combination but works!!, then that band led us to another named "Number girl", they disolved on 2002, then came back on 2021 but we got sad because they disolved for good on 2022, finally, we found our comfort zone on shoegaze, bands like MDGF, Mass of the Fermenting Gregs, Uchuu Nekoko, Adorable, Slowdive, etc.

And here we are, doing music that it's a weird combination of shoegaze, midwest emo and j-rock

Bands like The Casualties, Anti-flag, and Bikini Kill are what really got me into punk. The Casualties was my first show too so they had a really big influence on me and still do. For metal, it was bands I grew up listening to with my dad like Slipknot, Linkin Park, and Avenged Sevenfold. Slayer got me listening to heavier stuff, I think 200 Stab Wounds and Goreaphobia got me into death metal and Carpathian Forest got me into black metal.

my simplest answer would be blink-182 got me into punk rock as a whole. But The Queers made me fall in love with the Ramonescore/Bubblegum side of pop punk, which rekindled my love for Teenage Bottlerocket, and actually got me into the Ramones and Masked Intruder.
