Forum: Goals, Plans, Hopes

i have had quite a few goals for a while !! mainly lifestyle changes that i think would be hard, but would ultimately help me in the long run... it might help to put the ideas down in words

  • brush my teeth twice a day

  • floss once a day

  • get 8 hours of sleep minimum every night

  • take my allergy medications everyday

i also have some goals that are less concrete that might require extra work or thought/planning

  • go to bed early, wake up early

  • eat 3 balanced meals a day (with snacks)

  • accumulate less screen time aka spend less time on the phone, computer, TV

  • meditate more often

  • drink more water (i kind of was doing this one for a good while but my water bottle broke)

the thing is, a lot of these things correlate to coping methods. theyre not healthy coping methods, but they are. for example, spending a lot of time on the computer is a distraction and helps soothe anxiety by occupying time. if i just suddenly stopped myself from using the computer, then i would actually become more anxious unless i replaced the time i would normally spend on the computer with other hobbies that both distract and soothe. maybe i can get into crocheting and sewing again? ive also been wanting to get into kandi. stuff like that.

other things are just a matter of creating a habit, which can be really difficult. im normally very good about brushing my teeth, but any disruptions to my routine can cause me to forget. for example, i recently moved and i went a week or two without brushing due to the disruption.

some goals can just straight up be too much to handle without building any skill first. i have tried to practice getting 3 full meals a day in, but my knowledge of nutrition and diet just doesnt have the depth necessary to facilitate something like that. plus, i might have some dietary restrictions due to a possible undiagnosed chronic condition (and an unknown allergy). its just been really hard and ultimately annoying. its much easier to eat foods that you want and enjoy to eat.

sometimes, building habits that are healthy on paper can be torture. if you focus too much on your health goals, i think that in an of itself can become unhealthy, too. you have to remember that you're human and that it's ok to forget, it's okay to have treats, and it's okay to rest.

im in my early 20s and something ive already learned is that moderation is everything. if you have too much of one thing, it can end badly. even if the thing is good.

what are your thoughts? do you have lifestyle goals similar to mine?
