Google and Chromium

So, every browser uses Chromium nowadays -_- Exept Firefox, Safari and also Mosiac, Netscape and Internet Explorer but no one uses those anymore (Exept me and youtubers like Michael MJD and NationSquid XD).

The problem with Chromium is that ITS REALLY HUGE ON YOUR STORAGE AND RAM. ESPECIALLY GOOGLE CHROME. /(>~<)/ Safari and Firefox (and the browsers of the 90s) are really small in your storage and RAM.

If you ever looked for a chrome alternative, almost every browser uses chromium and is worse. Opera is spyware, especially Opera GX, the CEO of Brave is a homophobe and Edge is owned by microsoft, wich speakes for itself -_-

Thats why Firefox is amazing.

Speaking of google, their search engine sucks. Duckduckgo is best. Google dropped their “dont be evil” motto for “do the right thing”, because they became evil.

I thought Chrome was supposed to be quite good for RAM usage, but lately I've spotted a few people mention that it actually uses a lot.  I mostly use Firefox and find that it needs a lot of RAM, but perhaps if I opened the same windows and tabs (of which there are many!) in another browser it would be just as bad or worse.  But then how much of the problem is huge and excessively complex web pages?

I like Brave, but there's also Ungoogled Chromium.

Libre Wolf is pretty good, based on Firefox but hardened and much more privacy focused.

There's also Pale Moon and Basilisk which use the Goanna browser engine.

For search I quite like SearxNG which is a search proxy and you can tell it what search engines you want it to query (Brave, Qwant, Mojeek etc.).

I think the biggest problem with Chromium based browsers is the massive grip Google has on the internet, the Manifest V3 stuff is bad news!

i've used firefox since i was a wee lad, it's getting worse too, it's not anywhere near how bad chrome is but mozilla is going down a dark path and there are no other good alternatives. i fear the near future won't have any good browsers at all. safari is actually alright but they don't offer it to non-apple devices bcuz apple are stupid >:( firefox might become crap but i'll use it till then o7

Yeah, I'm not encouraged by Mozilla.  Browsers like LibreWolf and perhaps Mulvad shouldn't exist, not because there's anything wrong with them, but because there shouldn't be all this nonsense in Firefox that there is a need for those browsers.

It seems there's a new browser and web engine coming on the scene called Ladybird.  They're expecting to do a first alpha release in 2026.

I'm mainly on the Firefox train cause I have no other realistic alternatives right now, but ATM I'm currently using an alternative to it called Waterfox, that's community-driven instead of ran by Mozilla. Means less of the stuff they're trying to pull ends up in Waterfox, which is good.
