hello! so as you may have noticed, a reboot/remake of Magic Knight
Rayearth has been officially announced! There's no details or release
date, but it has been said that it will more closely follow the events
of the manga.
does anyone have any thoughts on this? i have a few, i'll post them below the announcement image here.
soooo
basically! i love Magic Knight Rayearth with my entire heart!! i
watched the anime for the first time a few months ago and then just
finished reading the manga the other night, so you could say it's pretty
fresh in my mind. i will say, it's very hard to find fellow fans to
interact with, especially ones around my age and especially ones here in
the US!

Magic Knight Rayearth is a beautiful
anime/manga and it's one of the very few of the isekai genre that i have
genuinely enjoyed. it features not only another world, but magical
girls who wield magic swords alongside their powers and eventually pilot
GIANT MECHS! it's fucking awesome, to put it bluntly. i love the story
as well!

so with that being said, i AM
excited about the remake. cautiously so, i will add. but, i am excited
for new fans to be exposed to this amazing work and to the world of
CLAMP in general, because let's face it, a lot of modern anime fans here
in the west mainly know CLAMP for Cardcaptor Sakura. that isnt a drag, i
LOVE CCS a LOT! but it'll be nice to see other works getting attention
as well :3

i'm also excited to be getting
more content of this series! more content means new fans, who will pitch
in making new art and such!

it's interesting
that they're planning on following the story of the manga more closely.
usually following the manga is more of a good thing, such as the case of
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and even Sailor Moon Crystal. (that
isnt to say that their original adaptations were bad, as i did enjoy FMA
'03, and og sailor moon is a STAPLE!!) i don't think it's bad that it
will follow the manga, since there was a specific story detail they
changed for the first part of the anime that i really found unneccessary
and upsetting (i won't spoil it here!) and i also prefer the ending of
the manga over the anime ever-so-slightly.

however,
there are things added into the anime that make the girls' journey feel
more full, fruitful, whatever adjective fits here. we watch the girls
grow closer with each other and the inhabitants of Cephiro (the world
they got isekai'd into) over time and it feels a little more realistic.
there's also a big arc for Hikaru that is nonexistent in the manga, and
it's an arc that i personally enjoyed a lot and didn't realize was
anime-only! :0

so while i think it's a
good thing that they will be following the manga more closely, i feel as
though it's to an extent. but it'll be interesting to see anyway.

in
general, i am excited but nervous!! i do hope it's enjoyable at least.
i'm a little sick of reboots and remakes and sequels in general... but i
have high hopes anyway and i hope that at the very least it resurrects
the love this series deserves.
