So basically you know  kanata was a god for this like evil cult scheme and all well basically madara was also apart of the cult(well more known as his parents(ESPECIALLY HIS MOTHER.) and the parents raising him into it) he never had a great relationship with them. they also wanted to make him behave as he knew himself that he was a problem child and only cost them "hardships" and many days when mamas family would pray to kanata after they would hang out like friends and because of this kanatas only real friend at the time was madara, however during this madaras sister was very deathly sick(she has a unknown chronic illness as stated and at one point. Even thought madara hadnt made a wish yet  but he prayed his one and only wish to kanata to make her better/or recover and obviosuly kanata was not a god so basically madaras sister  was still suffering(this strained him and sisters relationship hard because madara had made a promise to maguro that he would defenitely save her no matter what.) and then that’s when mama realized that kanata could not grant wishes at all and it was all fake and a scheme. He didn’t want kanata used his whole life so he tried to get kanata out of the grasps of these people and tried to make sure he had a normal life just like a kid should have but he ended up failing uh successfully. and for this his family and the cults people called him a monster evil and worthless because he was trying to like make kanata realize he’s NOT a god and could not grant wishes,  and it was only after he tried to save kanata .  but in reality he was doing the right thing and that’s why kanata says this (**mikejima, thank you for trying to Protect me until the very end. 

no matter what anyone says, i at least will never call you evil or a monster. )

Not only that but madara cares a lot about kanatas happiness and how he acts, also fun fact kanatas button was only tied properly when madara was taking care of him.  Souma also acknowledges the things madara does for kanata** (…You understood the feelings of your friend, eased his burden, granted his wish—  you made him smile.)**    So therefore kanata finally got his smile after being freed from the god life not only that but kanata under stands madaras fears a lot better than most (hehehe. mikejima immediately breaks anything, you see. but, he Fears that side of Himself the most.) and that’s why they are such  close  also he sees madara as a very special person to him and it’s confirmed in a YouTube video with a relationship chart. And madara cherishes kanata with his whole life.   Kanata also called  madara a rogue for most of the time they were together that was until a while. Also madara gave up the role as a hero(THE ROLE AS RYUSEI PURPLE) yes mama used to be in ryuseitai for some reaso n nobody knows that?? just so he could “have someone better as his hero” since he thought he wasnt fit to be  but not without a fight because at first he didnt want to give up kanata to somebody else. he wanted to be his hero. and then he realized kanata  needed someone that "wouldn’t hurt him " (he didnt actually in a sense? but madara had and kinda has? horrible depression and other affects n problems  u can learn abt in his idol story with anzuzu)   and that person was (chiaki)  because he believed he couldn’t do it after failing once and already being hated by the people he considered family. 

also fun fact see you again (mama solo song) is 90% canon confirmed to be targetted to kanata ;p he regrets that he couldnt have saved him sooner, faster, and been the hero he needed.

and as the story progresses they are growing even closer than before. its so cute they rot my brain at a x2000 speed. srory for rant but they are my everything im their #1 supporter and i love making ymself suffer  also chiaki has 1 way secure network to talk to madaras mom wtf who does that its freaky. it also made him suffer alot after because he couldnt get a lot of work unless he was doing it under other people.  leo and some of knights rlly helped him a lot during this time and thats why they r friends ^_^!!
