probably not exactly what you're looking for, but there are a few open-source ways to host your own AIM server, but I figure you're looking for people to talk to, as well. For that, the best thing I could recommend is NINA. It's unfortunately not free ($5 one-time donation to get access to it), but it gets you AIM and ICQ, and they work with the Escargot project, which is reviving Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger, as well. Highly recommend checking it out and joining their Discord server. (note, i'm not affiliated with either service, I just like them)

You can ask the people involved on the project if you can donate via other ways. But, yeah... it's an interesting project.
