Is it possible to revive a dead phone battery?

I thrifted an awesome Sony Ericsson flip phone today and it seems to be in good condition however the battery in it is so very dead and I don't have its charger. I do have one of those battery charging devices where u charge the phones battery directly, I tried using it and so far it seems to be completely ineffective. I will wait for it to charge overnight in hopes that anything happens. Is there any hope for this battery or am I gonna have to hunt for an entirely new one?
