i've been trying to learn for an embarrassingly long time due to some setbacks regarding my living situation as well as just generally being a shit self-teacher. i'm trying to learn electric geared towards hardcore/post-hardcore. i can pick up anything by ear on violin which means i'm running into an issue where my hands move faster than my brain and i do not have the muscle memory required to back that up lol. any help appreciated :)

Get a basis of hardcore songs that you know how to play well and practice them with the song, if you don't know any, then just start learning ones that you enjoy and once you have those down start practicing songs out of your comfort zones, and practice technique's that are common in your style of music or that you want to learn. And for hardcore that would be barre chords, pinch harmonics, tremolo picking, triplets, and fast power chord switching. So basically just learn easy songs that you enjoy and do exercises for the techniques that are in them

- if you wanna improvise, learn some basic scales ( you really only need major, minor and pentatonic but you can learn some others too )

- if you wanna get more comfortable, practise different ways of holding your pick, different strap lengths if you play standing and practise going through the chromatic scale with each finger ( yes including your pinky finger even though it's annoying it's very helpful )

- if you wanna play barre chords, it's all about your hand positioning. watch videos and make sure you play mainly on the tips of your fingers ^^

- play along with the track + videos !! videos with the track, someone playing the song on guitar and the tab all in one can be extremely helpful, especially because you can slow it down if you're using youtube. never feel ashamed for playing slowly, get used to the songs you're playing !

- at the end of the day, you can just play the instrument. if you're not interested in theory or scales, they're really not needed to play well, at least at an early stage.
