I know the budget is low and some of the plot lines are cheesy, but the character building is still top-notch as only the Buffy writers can provide. There are so many early seeds planted and witty dialogue, that I don't skip even my least favorite episodes of the season. I used to hate I, Robot, You, Jane, but besides the cheesy horror stuff, there's so much good character and dialogue writing. The Puppet Show is probably my least favorite now. Besides the Scooby dialogue/character building, it's devoid of any redeeming qualities. Okay, maybe Willow's stage fright, especially during the end credits lol still don't skip it though. One thing I hate from the first few episodes is there whimsical piano whenever Buffy does a flip lol
Nightmares set up and foreshadowed so many things. It's probably the best episode of the season and the most important early episode of the series. Buffy's fear of being buried alive comes true in early season 6 after Gile's fear of Buffy dying comes true at the end of season 5. Buffy's nightmare about becoming a vampire alludes to where her power originates from and a general fear of her own darkness she doesn't come to terms with until season 7. And, of course, the line "dreams? No, that would be a musical comedy version of this" foreshadowing Once More With Feeling, then the line "I've got a theory some kid is dreamin' and we're all stuck inside his wacky broadway nightmare" calls back to Nightmares. Very cool how they got linked up.
lol this turned into my review of season 1 and I didn't mean for it to
