Must-have biking gear?

Beginner biker here, looking for some tips on what sort of gear to get to prepare. Looking for advice on security things since I plan on driving mine to work and a coworker told me how people have tried to steal it while it was in the company parking lot and I also need advice on what sort of clothes and gloves to get since it can get pretty cold at higher speeds.

Hey!
I'd start by a good helmet. A helmet is something you really need to care about, don't go for the cheapest out there, if possible go for a known brand. There are some nice cheaper brands that, besides not being as good as Arai, Shoei, etc, they're really nice. I'd go for a CMS or a LS2.
Next step, a nice jacket. I use a leather jacket with protection on the shoulders and back, but those can be more expensive, so try to go for one made of fabric, but keep in mind that it has to have the protections, these saved my life once.
I'd recommend some leather gloves, with finger and palm protection as well.
If you have the possibility to buy some pants with protection on the knees, that's great, I'm looking for some at the moment.
And finally, comfortable shoes/boots, without shoelaces. If you don't have some of those, make sure to tuck the shoelace into the shoe so it doesn't get stuck in the gear leaver or the brake pedal.

I'd recommend a scarf as well for colder days.

By the way, it doesn't matter what bike you ride, if it is a scooter, is it a sports bike, your safety is way more important than anything else, don't forget that on a motorbike, you're the bumper.

the reply above honestly sums it all up very well but id like to put some emphasis on a couple of things

PLEASE
dont cheap out on your helmet. make sure its at least DOT certified and
made by a trustable brand. go for the latest ECE standard (22.06) if
you can afford it, though 22.05 is still good enough. both are better than
DOT.

id recommend looking for more scratch resistant stuff
than padded stuff. this goes for everything, including your gloves. theres only so much that a knee pad can do, but road
rash is the worst and most common injury you can have.
