I feel so bad for Ennis, like he was a teen when he met Jack and when they finally reunited they only met each other for a few days once in a while. Not to mention he had 3 kids with a woman he didn't love. Jack was scratching for love with many, but always came back to Ennis, he couldn't find anyone to replace him, but even after that Jack and Ennis died without hearing each other confess thier love, they never heard that from each other. When Jack died Ennis only could suspect that it wasn't a tragic accident, he never had a chance to see the body to say goodbye either, just the ashes. He found out about his death prom a post card, how sad is that!? Ennis died knowing if only he wasn't so afraid, they could be together, they could have a happy life, but his fears were holding them back, now he only had Jack's shirt and memories of him. And I can only imagine Ennis' pain when he found out about Jack being dead, do you remember the scene from the beginning of the movie when he cried that Jack was driving away, never to be seen again (at least I think that what he thought) and he was hitting the wall? I think he felt something like that, but so, so much worse. I'm just glad that at the end of the movie, he felt some sense of peace, and as a gay (trans)man myself, Ennis' fears are SO relatable.
(Don't come at me if I got something wrong, it's been some time since I watched the movie.)
