Twitch Streaming - The Struggle of Discoverability

Having spent the last 6 months streaming to Twitch, I've personally experienced some facets of what people have been talking about when it comes to discoverability on the platform.

People spend a lot of time trying to express themselves at their best at all times during the entire duration of their stream, which means being consistently energetic and "UP" for many hours at a time with hardly a single break. This is NOT good for someone's mental and physical health, especially if that constant effort yields little to no results. 

The odds of being discovered as a broadcaster on Twitch, even when playing NICHE games range from unlikely to downright impossible. If your average viewer count is 300 or higher in a saturated category (Call Of Duty, for example), then your odds of being discovered aren't impossible, but unlikely. Being 100 or below means that you're probably not going to grow from COD unless you get raided or endorsed in some way. Being 50 or below? You'll get nary a click, and that's VERY disheartening.


If another platform appears that promises real and organic ways to be discovered beyond tags and a major name on Twitch moves to it then there's a very strong possibility of being discovered, assuming some measure of their viewers cross over with them. I'm sure there's more factors to consider than just that, but it would serve Twitch VERY well to have some competition so they can realize that not banning people who deserve it, and further ignoring their on TOS may actually result in harm to their business models.

Having been on Twitch for about four years now, I've been through the ups and downs a lot. As it stands, Twitch doesn't have a true competitor so they have no reason to improve anything. Even YouTube's livestreaming side leaves so much to be desired. There is no category filtering, it's even harder to find just a Live section in the sea of prerecorded content. I wish the bigbois heading there from Twitch would enable YT to improve those aspects, but it's clear they have no interest in getting a bunch of smaller content creators there anymore.
