Advice for punking up clothes?

I'm trying to stick to a thrifted/gifted/stolen rule with my closet, but I also want to start dressing to reflect my subculture. Any advice for low-cost mods I could make to my clothes? I have most basics and access to a sewing machine, but I can't dye things yet.

You can get press-on studs/metal embellishments from craft stores for cheap– I got a whole kit for $8 AUD the other day. The craft section in second-hand shops is amazing, too. So many old buttons, sewing patterns, old fabrics...

Oh, here's a good one. You can print/draw some basic images/words onto paper, and cut them into a stencil. If you have fabric paint (or even acrylic paint) you can use this on clothes.

The absolute most classic of punk clothing mods is chopping things up, adding safety pins, or adding paint or patches. Patches are easy to make using scrap fabric and a sharpie, and can be attached using dental floss if you don’t have thread, or safety pins if you don’t have a needle. If you want to get more advanced, studs, chains, grommets, and zippers are available at most craft stores :)
