There probably aren't 800 billion websites, most likely they are counting individual pages as their own website

If I had my own website, and on it was 2 pages, I bet the Internet Archive would count those 2 separate pages as their own website entirely

Or maybe they're counting the total amount of times every webpage on the internet has been saved on their site

Either way, there's no way there's 800 billion sites. That's such a high number it seems ridiculous. Doing the maths, that would mean every person on Earth would have 100 websites.

EDIT: I searched it up, and apparently there are only about 1 billion websites

I wonder how many of those 1 billion websites are some sort of bot / AI auto generated thing like 'Top 10 Headphones of [insert this year]' or 'Best Android Phone of [insert this year]'.

Yeah I'm fairly certain they're talking webpages, or maybe even copies of each webpage. YouTube alone has over 14 billion videos, which means over 14 billion webpages just on YouTube.

thats still pretty insane tho actually. that means if you have a page on a website like youtube or twitter (or even a personal website), that means its likely that someone has archived that page atleast once! try checking out the archives you have for your pages on websites like that, even things like my frickin scratch profile is archived!

makes me happy to see so many people so invested in archiving the internet in such a way.
