For me, it's more exciting to learn about Eastern Christianity than Western Christianity. Maybe this is subjective but those eastern churches have a richer history. The differences between these two are many, especially in culture, language and politics, as well as theology.

I'm of similar thinking. I've recently been reading some of Timothy Ware's published work on Eastern Orthodox history and philosophy and it's been much more captivating than anything I've read about the Western branches of the faith.
