for me it's 100% the 3ds and dsi. It feels like consoles were actually... fun, yknow? yeah, the DS line had bad specs compared to other consoles but it had this radically different identity to other systems/form factors. I think the original Wii was also a great example from this bygone era. I love little console gimmicks and it's honeslty kinda sad do see consoles slowly converge on this "how beefy of a graphics card can we cram in here" direction. I think nintendo is also slowly losing that kinda different identity with the switch kinda just being a tablet with detachable controllers. Even the switch's main menu feels bland and sterile.

However, all of this isn't really new. We've already seen this with smartphones over the years going from cool designs to generic glass and metal rectangleβ„’. Like, semember the samsung galaxy S beam? Yknow, the phone that had a whole ass projector crammed in? Or the LG phone with replaceble modules at the bottom? Or even that motorola phone that had the backplates you could change out for cool shit like big speakers or 10x optical zoom cameras. Oh and don't even get me started on headphone jacks.

I just wish that electronics manufacturers started having fun with their products again. I just want to see fun, cool stuff appear that I can just buy. So what if it's clunky or sorta jank? I just want to have that new - and I mean new - feel to stuff I buy. Alas, capitalism sooner or later makes companies stop supporting things that don't generate enough of the almightly cash money (just look at killed by google) or just discourages companies from experimenting too much out of their comfort zone in fear of "number go down"

that's gotta be the PS2, for a more personal reason.

(get ready for a random spacehey user's lore)

I was always mesmerized by video-games when I was little. my uncle (mother side) had a SNES and my cousin (father side) had a PS1 and I always wanted to play with them, so my father noticed right away that I liked video-games and technology.

In an effort to one up his brother, my father said to himself ''you know what, I'm not buying him a PS1, I'm buying him the latest console there is'', and so he started working overtime just so he could get me the latest console (at the time 2005-2006) for christmas, and that was the PS2. best part is that he got the console chipped, so he could basically just buy me cheap pirated games instead of buying them at full price.

(Imagine buying games like SSX3 for 3-4 usd instead of 30-40 usd, it was awesome!.)

I can vividly recall all the memories I made while using my PS2, coming back from school and playing dragon ball Z: budokai tenkaichi 3 with my cousins, playing an extremely modded version of PES6 or W11 with all the football clubs from my country with my dad (there are actually videos of those exact modded version here and here), all the times I raged when playing shadow of the colossus cause I couldn't figure out where to hit the colossi, etc.

Still have it, fully functional. I actually booted it up the other day, and upon seeing all those saved files still in my memory card, with the date and time of the last time I used them (2014), drowned me in a wave of nostalgia for times long gone.

I love my parents and the PS2 for giving my child-self an outstanding childhood.

I could also go on and on about the console itself and its design, but that stuff is for a blog post, not a reply .

6th generation and 7th generation of gaming, that was literally the golden era. I wish I was around for the 5th generation of gaming.

I miss life when you could literally be someone's friend because they have a DS as well. I have most memories on PS2, PS3, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, 3DS, and PS4. I have some memories for PSP and PS Vita though.

Nostalgia swirls around the old years of old-school consoles. For me, the Wii holds a dear spot on my heart. Uncountable hours playing Mario Party, Mario Kart, Punch Out, Sonic Colors... It may not be as old as, I dunno, the N64, but it still is a nostalgic memory.

The Nintendo Wii. It was the first ever console I had and I miss playing games on it. I still have it (as well as a 2nd one) but I just...haven't played in a while. The Wiimote I use is getting old and some batteries corroded the metal inside so I have to make sure to always take the batteries out after I play so it doesn't get worse.

Β I miss the PS2 and nintendo DS so so bad πŸ₯Ή. Even though i was deathly scared of the PS2's loud intro screen LMAO

I try not to be a grump about newer technology because its always great to see the way we improve upon things, but i kind of really do miss the old dual-screen stuff nintendo had going on and i wish it wasn't completely scrapped and replaced x_x also, despite it not doing well, i actually really liked the Wii and i wish they had explored that more too. That might be an unpopular opinion though LOL
