I originally typed this out in a discord server to some of my friends who dont listen to lil darkie so just keep that in mind when reading.
1.LIL DARKIE CLASSICS (2019) 13 Songs, 42 min 40 sec
This is a compilation album of the most popular songs from Lil Darkie's soundcloud era, usually im against the idea of compilations being considered actual albums but every song on this slaps, i have every single one liked, this was the first lil darkie album i ever listened to with "SHOOT PEOPLE YOU DON'T LIKE" being my introduction to him all the way back in 2021 when my friend recommenced him to me, this album perfectly embodies his original soundcloud style of leaning more into trap-rap and his very loud eardrum blasting scream style, this album just is just rlly good at showing how lil darkie developed and perfected the original style from his debut album DRAIN THE SWAMP that made lil darkie gain his fame, my stand outs on this album are "POSTED IN THE DVRK" (which is originally from DRAIN THE SWAMP but i associate it more with this album), "FUCK YOURSELF", and "BIG WAR"
2.SWAMP (2020) 22 songs, 1 hr 12 min
This album is very good at showing lil darkie's diversity, this album showcases his many styles hes developed across his career, from his original style in songs like "DARKIE CAN RAP" and "FRIED EGG", to his newer more metal sounding style in "COMFORT IN DISCOMFORT", to his more sad sounding chill rap in "BACK IN LONG BEACH", to his more laid back lofi kinda sounding style in "i don't know" and "i can see clearly" which would go on to be his most streamed song on spotify, if you wanna showcase lil darkie as a whole to somebody, give them this album, i have 11/22 songs liked from this album, my standouts on this album are "BACK IN LONG BEACH", "i don't know", and "COMFORT IN DISCOMFORT"
3.THIS DOES NOT EXIST (2020) 13 songs, 42 min 39 sec
This whole album showcases a lot of lil darkie's sad chill rap style, with a few exceptions such as "rap music" and "wrap music", most of this album feels chill and underground, it feels like he was purely making it for fun, i could fall asleep to most of these songs, they are so chill and laid back, on a quick sidenote everytime i hear "wrap music" i wanna dance, i have 7/13 songs liked, my standouts are "wrap music", "EGO DEATH", and "GOOD MOURNING!"
4.YIN (2020) 11 songs, 37 mins 46 sec
This album feels like you just stumbled across something you weren't meant to, I've never done LSD or shrooms but im assuming this album is how it feels, everything in this album feels offly weird and out of place but it works so good in its favor, like THIS DOES NOT EXIST (which i would argue is a better name for this album), the whole album has a chill style to it, when i first discovered this album i sadly glanced over it not paying much attention to it except for the ending 10 minute track "RIGHT ON", this song tells a story of lil darkie's youth with many different sections of the song each hitting hard every time i repeat the track (which somehow i have failed to say this while typing this but lil darkie either makes really short 1-2 minute songs, or he makes 6-12 minute songs that have different sections and deep meanings to them, there are rarley any inbetweens),if you can't tell, i rlly like "RIGHT ON" and its one of my fav songs by lil darkie, i have 4/11 songs from this album liked, my standouts are "RIGHT ON", "MUSHROOM", and "STOP"
5.THE FUTURE IS DARK (DELUXE) (2023) 23 songs, 1 hr 1 min
This album is a bit werid to discuss, it's his most recent non-compilation album and it has this sort of style to it where its more of his chill style but it's like catchy and has more rnb type beat, it also has some more original lil darkie styles that kinda lean more into DRAIN THE SWAMP rather than LIL DARKIE CLASSICS, it also has some rlly nice softer eukelele tracks, this album is rlly chill but it feels like its trying to be an experience rather than an album and it fails because its kinda all over the place, with "SWAMP" it does diversity in styles great but with this its kinda a bit scattered which makes its whole "trying to be an experience" a lot worse, but overall its a decent album, i have 10/23 songs liked, my standouts are "DYSTOPIA (put your hands up)", "NATION ETERNAL", and "cold outside"
6.SWAMP DRAINED (2019) 10 songs, 30 min 41 sec
This album, being one of his earlier ones, of course has a more original lil darkie style. Almost all the songs on here are in a sort of no-melody rap style. It feels kinda makeshifted but it does it in a better way than his album LOST SONGS does. In this album the statement less is more is absolutely true, he uses little tools and instruments to make a better sound. I used to dislike this album after hearing a couple of the starting songs which i still dislike but once i gave it a chance and listened to the entire album it ligthened up in my heart. This album is a unique spin on lil darkie's original style. There are some songs that have a more chill style such as "I ONCE WAS..." and "DARKIE STILL CANNOT RAP" with the latter standing out from the rest on this album. It's kinda like "RIGHT ON" from the YIN album due to it's long nature and how it's telling a story but it's not as long. It's the type of track you could bop your head to in the car so don't dismiss it due to the nature of the other songs on this album. I have 5/10 songs on this album liked. My standouts are "DARKIE STILL CANNOT RAP", "I ONCE WAS...", and "LEARNING TO NOT GIVE A FUCK"
7.THE SMALL DARK ONE (2022) 7 songs, 21 min 20 sec
This album is rlly expermiental, it feels really personal and feels like lil darkie trying to give us a glimpse into his struggles in an artistic form, it has a sort of ominous tone with tracks like "ohm", "dreaming"", and "do more drugs" whilst having more rap sections that lean into lil darkie's original style mixed with his chill style along with a drop of his hyperpop esc style that he showcased in his album "boros", this blend of his original, chill, and hyperpop style really show themselves in songs like "GO!" and "GOOP!". The only problem with this album is it's short length and just nor being all that memorable. i have 6/7 songs on this album liked, my standouts are "GO!" (which goes way harder than it has to), " "do more drugs", and "GOOP!"
8.LOST SONGS (2023) 18 songs, 44 min 25 sec
This one is a bit weird to rank because it's just a compilation of all of lil darkie's unreleased or unifinished songs from 2019-2022. This album has a variety of styles but it's most prominant/most memerable is the more chill makeshift DIY feeling of most the songs which makes sense since these songs are unifinished or never released. I have 3/18 songs liked from this album. My standouts are "MARY JANE", "time of the day", and "if only you knew".
9.LIL DARKIE CLASSICS 2 (2023) 31 songs, 1 hr 25 min
Now spotify says this album came out in 2019, which most of the songs were, but it actually came out on December 31st, 2023. This is a compilation album of songs from lil darkie's soundcloud era that never got ported to Spotify. It shows how he built upon the style he established in DRAIN THE SWAMP and how he transformed it and perfected it into what became LIL DARKIE CLASSICS. This album is decent, it has some good songs and even one of his most popular songs "when the world end". I have 9/31 songs from this album liked. My standouts are "BABA", "ALL BLACK", and "when the world end"
10.SUPER DARK VR (2019) 8 songs, 19 min 44 sec
This album has a sound that is specific to this one album. It still has the same lyrical and mostly vocal style of the original lil darkie sound but the instrumentals and style of this album is very different. It uses pixelated and video game esq sound effects to fit the gimmick for this album. It's the most unique album he's created. It isn't necesarily bad, it's an alright album, it's just kinda forgettable despite the gimmick. It's kinda like red headed step child of lil darkie's discoreography. Nobody really hates it, but it's not anybody's favorite album. It's just kind of there. It's kinda odd for him to be doing a gimmick album so early into his career. Despite how it might seem from what i just said this album is a good album, everything in it is up to lil darkie's standards. I have 3/8 of songs from this album liked. My standouts are "JUNGLE BASE", "THE DUNGEON OF THE SEWER TURTLE", and "LIGHT SABER/DARK ROOM"
11.DRAIN THE SWAMP (2018) 8 songs, 23 min 47 sec
This is his debut album. Before going by the alias lil darkie on soundcloud, he went by the name of Brahman and grew a small following, so he was already kinda experienced before this album. This album can be divided into three different styles. The first style is what i consider very early lil darkie style which is his normal trap rapping which he would develop and perfect to be more like another song on this album "POSTED IN THE DVRK", which is the only song on this album to feature the 2nd style. This 2nd style is much more intensified and strayed a little from normal trap rapping, this is the style lil darkie would evolve the 1st style to become. The third style in this album is a more laid back rapping but i wouldn't nesecarily consider it to be chill or quiet like some of his later sounds in THIS DOES NOT EXIST and YIN are like. This third sound is kinda scattered all across lil darkie's discoreography returning for a song or two or a section in a longer song. I'm not the biggest fan of this album because i just perfer his later and more developed sounds but i can understand how this first album grew his fanbase and listeners. I understand the appeal. I have 1/8 songs from this album liked. I only have two standout in this album and one of them is one i associate more as being in LIL DARKIE CLASSICS but the other one is "ONE TAKE". His one rapping skills in "ONE TAKE" are put to the test and showcased his potential.
12.boros (2021) 11 songs, 23 min 15 sec
This is his hyperpop album. The entirety of this album is him experimenting with hyperpop and when his iconic muscle man impression becomes popular. I'm an 100 gecs fan so im no stranger to hyperpop but this album just isn't particularly my favorite. I'm sure there are other people who would like this album but his style and how he does hyperpop just isn't my taste. I have 2/11 songs liked from this album. My standouts are "futile" and "owl effigy"
13.darkillinger (2022) 10 songs, 22 min 36 sec
This is his collab album with CHRIST DILLINGER. These two are a common pair and have made multilple songs together before this that sound perfect. However, in this album, they don't really try anything. The whole album is just kinda bleak and has no personality. There's nothing special about any of the tracks on this album. They're all just kinda bland. A lot of the songs have a funny nature to them which makes them think that lil darkie and CHRIST DILLINGER wasted a lot of time goofing off. Theres nothing really special about the tracks on this album to make it stand out. It feels like they had plans to make a good album but it just kinda fell through throughout the process. I have 1/11 songs liked on this album. My only standout is "just a little bit longer"
So that was my ranking of all of lil darkie's albums. Lemme know if you guys want me to do a ranking for some of his singles.
