my controller buttons arent working

so i bought a knockoff ps3 controller online and it arrived recently

i got it connected with my pc and the like scroller buttons are working

but the regular ones arent (like the square, circle, x and o and the L R and the other ones on the left (idk how its called, this is my first controller like ever and i wanst really allowed to buy xbox and stuff as a kid))

google says to clean it but otsn new so there isnt any dirt and grime on it

and the reviews on the product say that it works an stuff

so idk what to do

please help
