WHY DO PPL SUCK AT DRIVING ?

My grandfather told me this when I got my first car: “Most people who drive, don’t know how to drive.” Honestly we just know how to operate a vehicle rather than interact with traffic.

Most people are so used to dissociating unless they have a constant stream of serotonin that when they get into a car and have to actually keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, they just grey out until they reach their destination. Pair that with the individualism epidemic and "NPC" mindset, they literally don't pay attention or really see other cars as anything other than water fling downstream as they float along through it in traffic. People don't consider that other cars/drivers are whole people with whole lives who are also trying to get from A to B and just tune them out. Coupled also with the way that people's reflexes and coordination just aren't as fast/sharp anymore thanks to sedentary lifestyles. Toxic and deadly combination.

This has been an issue for a long time, I remember my driving test being an absolute joke; they should NOT have given me a license! (and they shouldn't be giving them out to most other people either lol)

Driving is just a mutual agreement between everyone on the road not to play bumpercars

a lot of others have good points but i also want to point out, at least in my area, road rage and impatience are major contributors to bad driving in my area. if you're going the speed limit, it's too slow. if you're going 10mph over the speed limit, it's still too slow. you could be going 20 over and some asshole behind you is still going to tailgate you and swerve into the bike lane to get around you. i've seen people go into oncoming traffic *specifically* to run a red light around those who are slowing down or stopping for the light. it's not even a lack of education here at this point, these behaviors are intentional and deliberate and ruin it for those who enjoy driving and are good at driving. 

every day here there are several news reports about major injuries or deaths due to bad driving, and our cops are contributing to it as well. i stg weekly there is a report about a cop driving directly into a wall or someone's house or something. it doesn't help when the people who are supposed to be enforcing driving safety are contributing to the bad driving.
