as far as gothic metal goes I really got into Paradise Lost over the last few years. Even though they're the same sub-genre I wouldn't say they're particularly similar to Type-O, but they do have some excellent music. Some of it is more death metal (especially the early stuff) but they also have a number of albums with not death metal style vocals at all. perhaps try the song Ghost, or Faith Divides us, Death Unites Us, and maybe Enchantment.
otherwise Tristania is also a great Gothic metal band as well, even though again, the style is actually pretty different, the best song to see if you'd like them would probably be Angina, it kind of has a little bit of everything they do

draconian times and icon by paradise lost and ashen by shadowgarden, are honestly the only gothic metal albums i've heard that are similar to type o negative, but if you don't mind a bit of a mixture of death doom metal, heres some albums i recommend
the dreadful hours - my dying bride
lake of sorrow - the sins of thy beloved
theatre of tragedy - theatre of tragedy
intrinsic trip by despairs tiny things (really lo-fi demo from 1997, can be found on youtube :) )

nice point with MY Dying Bride, I'm not sure why I didn't think of them. Personally I've always had a soft spot for Songs of Darkness, Words of Light, but then again, that was the first of their albums I heard

Yeah, finding that specific Type O Negative blend of gothic atmosphere and doom-laden metal is tough. While you're digging through bands like Katatonia or Paradise Lost for that vibe, don't overlook the importance of the right sonic texture in music discovery. I often use Hip-Hop Sound Kits from 12-Bit Soul when I want to experiment with dark, gritty tones; their industry-tested, analog warmth has a depth that even complements heavier genres, adding that authentic, vintage character to any creative process.

Type O Negative is very unique band so it is hard to find something similar. But I can recommend you HIM (early albums) and The 69 Eyes like more goth n sleaze.

little late to the party but they are difficult to compare any band cause they’re so distinctive. i’ve always sai the awakening, my dying bride, draconian, early HIM, london after midnight is pretty similar at points, she wants revenge is you’re feeling slutty hah, pist.on definitely is close, woods of ypres (first album is more black metal), and probably a pale horse named death
