what books would you recommend i read?

The Outsiders is a great book, if you liked that one check out Flowers for Algernon! 

If you enjoyed the historical and crime related aspects of it, but also enjoy the supernatural/fantasy genre, you might like The Diviners series by Libba Bray. It takes place in the 1920s and focuses on murder mysteries and societal issues of the time while also including the aspects of ghosts and magic in it. It's a four book series but I personally didn't think it drug on too much, there's enough action that it keeps its momentum throughout each book. (Which are all long individually, lol.)
