is it even possible to get a reasonably priced cash car? everytime i go on marketplace, craigslist, and even carfax or others, it feels like your only option is something brand new (most likely sold way above msrp, fuck dealerships) or someones failed project car that the seller wants trick some poor kid into buying.

Marketplace is usually better for people who know enough about cars to tell if one has issues or not from the test drive or initial lookover.

I'd suggest, if you can, financing a car from a used car lot for under $10K, something a little older & less fancy if you can find it. Cars made before/by 2010 aren't usually too complex yet also not old enough to be considered "vintage"/"antique".

Even better if you can get a cosigner! But if you finance with a cosigner you have to make those payments or it'll hurt not only your credit, but the co-signer's credit, too.
